“Don’t Do That!”
Ah another weekend over, and one more work week ahead of me.
We had a good time this weekend, we rented a car and took the dogs all about Vancouver in search of dog parks. We set off first to DeDutch Pannekoek on Oak, though we had yet to dine there. It was scrumptious.
Then it was off to UBC, though not really a park, where both of the rascals promptly defecated on the SUB lawn… Once that was over we peeled out of there and looked at Pacific Spirit for a bit but for some reason did not enter. Next was Granville Island, then the Seawall and beach.
It was interesting because at this point the dogs had been out for a couple of hours but Kokoro showed no signs of slowing. When we reached the seawall she promptly made a mad dash for the ocean, flying over the wall and landing somewhere beyond our sights. Of course being the proper hesher she is she seemed to have landed on all fours running, and kept tugging on the leash. Tantan was quivering at the top of the wall wanting to hop down but being too scared. (At least he is losing some weight!)
The dogs loved the beach. Kokoro ran around on the mossy rocks, and Tantan even found a dead crab to munch on somehow. This dog is definitely good at one thing - finding food!
Later that day we decided to take a road trip and headed to PoCo of all places to the Ikea there so I could get a new cheap desk having recently destroyed the hand-me-down at home in a flash of “I have to get to work on time!”. So we settled on something called the “Jerker” which I found to be quite suiting.
Home again around 9PM for supper at the ever-delicious Mongolian BBQ on Broadway - if you haven’t tried it yet I recommend that you do soon. It’s like other Mongolian BBQ’s, but the ingredients are actually good, and the service is just as nice. It’s DIY like the rest, but not all you can eat. As an added bonus, if you guess the full price of your bowl, they will give you a free meal the next time you stop by. T, being the math whizz, guessed hers within 8 cents, while I was off by a whole dollar. Figures.
The rest of the night was spent setting up a cheap tent in the house and playing fighting games on the PS2 with D.
The next day we decided to try The Whip, something Marko and RC had talked to me about a little while ago. It certainly unique - the french toast slices were about three normal slices of bread thick, and the chicken curry frittata was really good with TONS of masala spice.
Oh and I almost forgot: the funniest moment this weekend was cruising around Main Street trying to get some gas before returning the shitty Sentra I had rented. After getting the gas I realized I was headed the wrong direction on 3rd, and decided I’d pull a proper Vancouverite u-turn. You know, onr of the ones where you start on the furthest lane out and end up on in the same place on the other side. Well it worked fine, me being the oh-so-experienced driver, but little did I know there was a motorbike cop behind me.
woop WOOP went his tiny lil sirens.
All I could do was think “here comes the ticket.”
However, all the copper did was wag his finger at us and shout “don’t do that!” - which was great because T had forgotten her seat belt too!
I guess it was a bit of a surreal weekend: life is suffering, and there was a distinct absense the last two days.
