Top 10 New Albums of 2006
Top ten albums from 2006, no genres excluded, no specific order.
Feel free to chime in loudly.
1. Wolfmother - Wolfmother
This is one rocking album. It got major play in cars, bars, and apartments alike, complete with disco dancing dogs in sync.
2. Mates of State - Bring it Back
I have a soft spot for twosomes. I have a soft spot for female vox and Hammonds. I have a soft spot for Mates of State.
3. CSS - Cansei Der Ser Sexy
Alright the dancepunk craze has yet to die (a good thing), and this is a shining example. No band comparissons, just pop this Brazilian nugget on and bop around while you do the dishes.
4. Beirut - Gulag Orkester
Once in a while you just need an album that sounds different. This sounds like a drunken Slovakian wedding band trying to bang out the traditional.
5. Islands - Return to the sea
This album is a bit loose in sound - some of the songs don’t follow the same pattern as the others, but it’s nice to have some changeups as you frolic along.
6. Sunn O))) / Boris - Altar
This is one powerful split. Sunn O))) bring the atmosphere that you hopefully have grown to love, and Boris are rocking out with their cocks out once again. Lookout Guitar Wolf, yer thrown is about to be overtaken. Yep that was a band comparison.
7. Slayer - Christ Illusion
More rockin, less talkin. Good lyrics, killer riffs, and SLAYER. I know it’s been a while but give this some time, and admit that it’s still a damned good album.
8. Liars - Drum’s Not Dead
Heralded everywhere, I’m in too. It’ll make you cringe the first listen cause it’s not a typical Liars album. Let it sit, apply once more and marvel, and marvel.
9. Phoenix - It’s Never Been Like That
The second pop album on the list. Existentialist lyrics, or just plain fucking obtuse - you decide. Pure pop from some whacked out French guys.
10. Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now
Gimme flack. These guys spend a lot of time refusing to admit they are emo. Hey that’s cool, this is a fucking good album.
