All it means is to learn. To internalize, is to take information outside of yourself and figure it out. Because our minds are impure in this manner we experience suffering, dissatisfaction, pain and the like. Buddha taught that to overcome suffering we have to over come the causes which lie within. Makes sense to me. From my friend Josh, who has taken it upon himself to teach me about buddhism;
